A community meeting - scheduled last week by Chattanooga city staff after neighborhood leaders learned of a behind-the-scenes plan to sell the Glenwood Recreation Center to Notre Dame High School - has been moved from the Glenwood Recreation Center to the Orange Grove Center at noon Saturday, a news release sent by the city Friday stated.

East Chattanooga neighborhood leaders, who had gathered for a East Chattanooga Improvement, Inc. president's meeting last week, were incensed when they learned city staff had approached leaders of Notre Dame High School and Orange Grove Center about selling the Glenwood center and moving services to the nearby Orange Grove facility without sharing the idea with them.

The news shocked even those who had considered themselves close to Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke's administration and supported his recent push to changing the zoning of the former Harriet Tubman public housing site from residential to manufacturing, despite the pushback of other neighborhood leaders and community groups who had hoped to see some of the lost affordable housing replaced.
