A passerby walking her dog noticed a house on fire in the 2400 block of Bailey Avenue this evening and she and others notified 911, according to the Chattanooga Fire Department.

Lindsey Rogers, public information officer with the department, said the incident occurred just before 5 p.m.

Chattanooga police officers, who got to the scene first, checked the house but no one was at home. Flames were visible through the windows when firefighters arrived. They entered through the front door and extinguished the flames.

No one was injured, but two people were displaced and the American Red Cross was contacted to help them, the release states.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
