One person has died in a single-vehicle crash on Shallowford Road early Wednesday, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

Eric Lewis Pitts, 35, died from his injuries sustained in the crash, which happened at about 2:21 a.m.

Police say Pitts was the driver of the vehicle and was traveling east on Shallowford Road, approaching Shallowford Village Drive, at a high speed, the release states.

Pitts then struck the curb in front of a Wendy's restaurant and slid sideways into a traffic light pole, causing the vehicle to split into two pieces.

He was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene by Hamilton County EMS.
