NASHVILLE - A Tennessee probation officer from Altamont has been arrested on official misconduct charges for allegedly having a "physical relationship" with a Grundy County probationer, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The TBI said in a release that Tara Van Hooser-Prater, 38, who works for the state Department of Correction, was arrested following her indictment by the Grundy County Grand Jury on two charges of misconduct.

TBI special agents began their investigation July 24 at the request of 12th District Attorney General Attorney Mike Taylor.

"During the course of the investigation, Agents developed information that indicated that from May through July, Van Hooser-Prater had engaged in a physical relationship with a probationer who was on active probation in Grundy County," the TBI said in its statement.

The Grundy County Grund Jury returned indictments on Nov. 12, charging her with two counts of official misconduct.

Van Hooser-Prater was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Grundy County Jail on $7,500 bond.
