With Chattanooga's rapid growth comes consistent roadwork. With roadwork comes closures, detours and other traffic changes that may impact your commute.

Below, we list some of the most notable closures and other changes beginning or scheduled to end in December 2019, according to the Chattanooga Department of Transportation, so you can best plan your routes.

Changes beginning in December:

7th Street: Part of West 7th Street between Chestnut Street and Broad Street will be closed on Dec. 1 for crane work.

Cassandra Smith Road: A single lane will be closed on Cassandra Smith Road in Hixson from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. daily between Dec. 3 and Dec. 6.

Changes Ending in December:

12th Street Ramp: The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place through Dec. 18.

West Village Street Festivals: Pine Street between West 7th Street (south of the Republic Parking lot) and West M.L. King Boulevard, and West 8th Street between Pine Street and Chestnut Street will be closed from 8 a.m. until midnight each Saturday through Dec. 27.

Elder Mountain Road: Elder Mountain Road is temporarily operating as a one-lane road for a section of road between Cumberland Road and TVA Access Road. Temporary automated signals will be on site. Please drive cautiously and pay attention to all posted signage and signals. This phase of the project is estimated to end Dec. 31.

Central Avenue: One lane is closed with automated lights for the duration of the Moccasin Bend project, but is estimated to reopen Dec. 15.

Patten Parkway: Phase 1 of construction on Patten Parkway is causing an eastbound closure between Georgia Avenue and Lindsay Street. It began in August and is estimated to end in late December.

East 10th Street: Road closure on 10th between Foster Street and Douglas Street is expected to reopen on Dec. 9.

Oakwood Drive: The daily closure of the eastbound lane on Oakwood Drive, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., for the construction of a sidewalk is set to end Dec. 20

Ongoing long-term projects:

Lake Resort Drive: Lake Resort Drive will temporarily operate as a one-lane road between the roundabout at Highway 153 and Lake Resort Terrace. Traffic signals are in place to allow one direction through at a time. CDOT engineers will continue to monitor use of this westbound lane while working to repair the closed eastbound lane. The road may be closed to all traffic if conditions warrant. Hamill Road and Highway 153 should be used as a detour and to avoid congestion.

M.L. King Ram: The exit ramp to westbound M.L. King Boulevard has been closed since September and will be through early 2020. Traffic to westbound M.L. King will be the exit off of the Olgiati Bridge to 6th Street then west on Gateway Avenue to M.L. King.
