A Soddy-Daisy police officer responding to a rollover crash early Thursday morning on Highway 27 ran into the vehicle involved, a Chattanooga Police Department news release states.

The Soddy-Daisy officer, driving a Ford Taurus patrol car, did not see the wrecked Ford Escape, which had rolled over and was resting in the southboound lanes, because of heavy rain, fog and the lack of street lights in the area, police said. The driver of the Escape was not injured in the first crash and not inside the vehicle when it was struck by the officer's Taurus at about 1:45 a.m.

The officer involved was taken to a local hospital by emergency medical services personnel with non life-threatening injuries, the Soddy-Daisy police chief said.
