Hamilton County Schools has doubled the number of student meal site locations open across the county today.

The district has also launched several targeted bus delivery routes to certain areas.

School district employees and volunteers have been handing out thousands of meals a day to students since schools first closed on March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, other organizations such as the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga have also helped provide meals to families.

On Monday, two sites were closed - East Brainerd Elementary, which was destroyed during Sunday night's storm, and Wolftever Elementary, which was temporarily inaccessible.

The locations or buses will provide two days worth of breakfast and lunch to any child age 18 or younger. Food pick-up sites will be available outside each school location from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week until school re-opens or the school year has expired.

Children must be present to receive the free meals, but proof of enrollment is not required.
