Following a chase Thursday, Chattanooga police arrested a man suspected of looting tornado-damaged homes in the East Brainerd area days earlier.

A vehicle had been spotted on Tuesday in the damaged area, and its occupants were seen looting homes, according to Hamilton County court records. The driver had been wearing a Chattanooga SWAT hat while entering homes and possibly posing as law enforcement.

Later that day, police stopped the vehicle at a checkpoint at the intersection of Standifer Gap and Jenkins roads, court records state, and when officers asked for the driver's ID, he fled, nearly hitting both officers.

A "be on the lookout" alert was placed, and a few days later, two officers spotted the vehicle again in the 7100 block of Bonny Oaks Drive, according to court records. Officers tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle again fled.

The pursuit continued onto Highway 153, to Lee Highway and finally Brainerd Road where the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Travis Brenner, lost control of the vehicle and struck a pole before coming to rest against a fence, court records state.

Brenner and three others, Demetrius Underwood, 39; Taylor Statum, 28 and Lance Rogers, 40, all exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, the records say.

The four were all taken into custody, records state, and officers searched the vehicle and found drug paraphernalia and at least one firearm.

It's not clear which of the detainees were suspected of being involved in the Tuesday looting incident, or which was accused of driving the vehicle at that time.

All four face evading arrest charges. Additionally, Statum faces two drug-related charges. Rogers faces vandalism and theft charges. Brenner faces charges including reckless endangerment, illegal weapons charges, traffic violations and aggravated assault on police.

All four suspects are set to appear in court on April 22.

Brenner, Underwood and Rogers have extensive arrest histories in Hamilton County. Brenner's dates to 2012, Underwood's to 2014 and Rogers to 1997, according to online court records.
