Chickamauga, Georgia, man killed while riding bicycle in crash

A 58-year-old man from Chickamauga, Georgia, was struck and killed while he was riding his bicycle Tuesday night in Walker County.

About 10 p.m. Tuesday, 17-year-old Logan Robert Simerley of Chickamauga was driving north in a GMC Sierra on Highway 341 just north of Wheeler Road.

At the same time, John William Sneed, 58, was riding his black Mongoose mountain bike in the road. Simerley told troopers that Sneed was riding in the middle of the road when he suddenly hit him.

The initial crash report from the Georgia State Patrol said Sneed was traveling south "less than one foot from the double yellow center line" and was in the northbound lane of travel where Simerley was driving.

Simerley hit Sneed with the front of the car, and Sneed was pronounced dead at the scene.

Details about how fast Simerley was driving were not available as of Wednesday afternoon. The final report is pending.
