A former Bledsoe County Emergency Medical Service director has been charged with sex crimes after a joint investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Bledsoe County Sheriff's Office into allegations of sexual assaults on female EMS employees, according to a statement released by the state agency.

William Allen Angel, 29, is charged with five counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and 11 counts of sexual battery. He is now free on a $300,000 bond, according to the TBI.

The arrest stems from a 2019 investigation into "allegations of sexual misconduct against female employees of the Bledsoe County Emergency Medical Service," reads a statement from TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland.

Investigators determined Angel "was responsible for the sexual assault of female employees from April 2017 through September 2019," Niland said.

The Bledsoe County grand jury issued indictments July 27 charging Angel in the investigation. He was arrested July 31, officials said.

"There are multiple victims," Twelfth Judicial District Attorney General Mike Taylor said Wednesday.

Taylor said Angel appeared at the Bledsoe County Courthouse on arraignment day last week with an attorney but the warrants hadn't been served and Angel had not been arrested on the charges yet. He was later booked and released on bond and his arraignment date reset, Taylor said.

Angel's arraignment has been rescheduled for Aug. 24.

Chattanooga attorney Hank Hill was the attorney who appeared with Angel in Bledsoe County last week, according to Taylor.

Attempts to reach Hill Wednesday to confirm he was representing Angel and for comment on the arrest were unsuccessful.
