Society of Work and Miken Development are hosting an open house from 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday for an Artists Studios space off Main Street that will eventually be home to several studios for artists, such as a handful of artists displaced from the Chattanooga Workspace.

Located at 1601 S. Holtzclaw Ave., developers will allow the artists to have control over art and education programming of the gallery and classroom space. The administration and leasing will be managed by Society of Work, a local coworking company accustomed to leasing small offices and studios to creative individuals and entrepreneurs.

The historic buildings will be renovated to include ample natural light in the studios via the clerestory window system, which features windows spaced well above eye level. All studios will have ceiling outlets via retractable reels, 24 hour access, Wi-Fi, roll-up loading docks and free parking on-site. Rent will include utilities, as well as use of the gallery and classroom space for education. Long term, the campus will include a private courtyard, residences and access to the adjacent sculpture fields.

The project abuts The Sculpture Fields at Montague Park and is part of the Park District, a destination for arts and education in Chattanooga. Already opened on site as of June 2020 is the Austin Hatcher Foundation, whose mission is to erase the effects of pediatric cancer through Industrial Arts, Diversionary Therapy, Psycho-Oncology, and Healthy Lifestyle Education.

Also in the neighborhood is the upcoming StoveWorks project scheduled to open in the fall 2020, as well as The Betty music venue. HK Architects, considered the pioneers of this district and project neighbors at the Wheelhouse, will be designing the artist space.
