Two men killed in Friday drive-by shootings in Chattanooga, police say

Two men were killed in separate drive-by shootings on Friday, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Police found the first victim, 19-year-old Caleb McKean, suffering from several gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of East Third Street at around 2:42 p.m. Witnesses told police that a vehicle pulled up next to McKean's vehicle and shot into it. McKean was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries, the release states.

A few hours later, police stopped a vehicle and detained the driver, who they identified as the suspect in the shooting. The man, 77-year-old Terry Beard, told investigators the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident, the release states. Beard was then charged with criminal homicide and taken to Hamilton County Jail.

At around 8:16 p.m., police then found Toran Madding, 25, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the 2600 block of East 45th Street. Police were told that Madding was walking when someone in a vehicle shot him and fled the area, according to a news release.

Madding was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries.
