Deputies with the Walker County Sheriff's Office shot and killed a man after he allegedly pointed a gun at them Wednesday morning in Chickamauga, Georgia.

At 10:27 a.m. on Wednesday, a woman called the Walker County Sheriff's Office and said she had been beaten and held against her will by Jack Lamar Harris, 60, of Chickamauga, at her home on Brotherton Lane.

Deputy Justin Henry and Commander Dewayne Brown with the sheriff's office and Agent Robbie Tate with the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force arrived at the home shortly after the call and made their way toward the back door. Harris came out the back door and didn't respond to the deputies when they told him to stop and show his hands.

Harris then went back in the home and came out with a black handgun, according to authorities. After several more verbal commands, Harris raised the weapon and pointed it at the deputies. The deputies told Harris to drop the weapon but he didn't, authorities said. The deputies then fired multiple times, striking Harris and killing him.

Harris was pronounced dead at the scene.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said at the scene Wednesday morning the three deputies "returned fire," but the GBI's incident report does not specify if Harris shot at deputies or not. Wilson didn't immediately return an email Thursday afternoon for clarification.

The woman was taken to CHI Memorial Hospital in Fort Oglethorpe for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
