"This type of criminal activity involving inmate on inmate violence has unfortunately become a part of the culture within penal facilities across the nation," said Chief Deputy Austin Garrett in the release. "However, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office does not accept this as an unavoidable consequence of incarceration. The Sheriff's Office is committed to bringing those who prey on others to justice and utilizes professional incarceration practices to mitigate criminal acts within our facilities."

Conyers has been released from a local hospital and is currently in custody at Silverdale Detention Center.
