Did you hear it? Quake rumbles in North Georgia Tuesday

Folks who live west of Dalton, Georgia, might have heard a rumble around 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, when the U.S. Geological Survey office in Memphis reported a magnitude 1.5 earthquake.

The quake was a little more than 5.5 miles beneath the earth's surface and about 3.7 miles west of Dalton, the USGS reported. The initial location of the epicenter was off of Mill Creek Road between Eden Park and Enclave drives.

A magnitude 1.5 earthquake is rarely felt by anyone except under especially favorable conditions, according to the USGS.
