Second earthquake in two days rumbles Chattanooga region, this time near Ooltewah

For the second morning in a row, an earthquake rattled a Chattanooga area community, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

This time it was a magnitude 2.1 earthquake that rumbled north of Ooltewah between Gypsy Lane and Streamside Drive.

The quake was estimated at about 10.5 miles beneath the earth's surface and the initial epicenter was placed about 2.9 miles north of Ooltewah, the USGS said.

On Tuesday, a slightly smaller magnitude 1.5 earthquake struck around 8:40 a.m. near Dalton, Georgia, according to the agency.

A magnitude 2.1 earthquake is rarely felt by anyone except under especially favorable conditions, according to the USGS.
