Soddy-Daisy Police Department Chief Jeff Gann resigned earlier this month, the same day that the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office sent him notice it was investigating an allegation of "unbecoming conduct" made against him.

According to a report released Monday by the city, the investigation found that on Jan. 30, while the 22-year veteran was still on duty, he drove his department-issued 2019 Ford Explorer to the Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Dayton, Tennessee, where he met with the wife of another Soddy-Daisy police officer.

The report states that due to a "Preponderance of Evidence," allegations of unbecoming conduct and improper use of a department vehicle were sustained by the investigation, which was conducted in response to a Feb. 4 request from Soddy-Daisy City Manager Janice Cagle.

Three days after Cagle requested that the sheriff's office look into the allegations, Gann was suspended with pay. Later that day, Feb. 7, he submitted his resignation to Cagle, according to the investigation report.
