One person dies in wrong-way crash in East Ridge Sunday morning

One person has died after a wrong-way crash just before 4 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 24 West, according to East Ridge police.

A Toyota Camry and a Chevrolet Trailblazer were involved in a head-on collision, a news release states. The driver of the Toyota Camry was pronounced dead at the scene.

When the East Ridge Fire Department arrived at the scene, they stabilized the Trailblazer and had to extricate the driver from the SUV.

Police said the driver of the Trailblazer was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The identities of the drivers involved are not being released at this time pending notification of the families.

The investigation is ongoing, and the East Ridge Police Department will release more information as it becomes available.
