One person is dead following a police pursuit that started in Chattanooga and ended in north Georgia, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday, Chattanooga police responded to a report of an overdose in the 2000 block of Gunbarrel Road, a news release states.

When police arrived, the victim (and suspect) fled the scene. Chattanooga police pursued the suspect for a short period of time before calling off the pursuit, the release states.

Hamilton County Sheriff deputies attempted to stop the vehicle on East Brainerd Road, but were led on a pursuit south of Ooltewah Ringgold Road.

Deputies then pursued the vehicle into Catoosa County where it crashed. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

The Georgia State Patrol will be investigating the incident.
