The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Cumberland County authorities on Monday charged a New York woman in the 2018 death of a Crossville, Tennessee, woman that was related to the drug fentanyl.

Diana Lynn Grosso, 59, of Otisville, New York, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 59-year-old Julia Meade, according to TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland.

In February 2019, TBI and Cumberland County Sheriff's Office investigators began working the case at Meade's home in Crossville, Niland said. Investigators determined Meade had been in New York on or around July 11, 2018, and acquired drugs she brought back to Tennessee, according to Niland.

On July 13, 2018, Meade was found dead from what the investigation revealed was fentanyl toxicity, Niland said.

The investigation identified Grosso as the person responsible for providing the substance containing what authorities allege was fentanyl to Meade, leading to the murder charge, Niland said.

Grosso is being held at the Cumberland County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
