A 45-year-old man was found dead about 200 feet from his vehicle by a family member in Dade County, Georgia.

Franka Young, a spokesman for the Georgia State Patrol, said the GSP was notified of a single-vehicle fatality on Hales Gap Road north of New Home Road at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

Earlier that day, a Dade County sheriff's deputy reported to the scene at about 10:30 a.m., and a Chevrolet Blazer was found empty. The deputy could not locate the driver and left the scene, authorities said.

Several hours later, a family member found the driver - later identified as Charles Mooneyhan - about 200 feet from where the vehicle crashed.

Preliminary evidence showed Mooneyhan was driving south on Hales Gap Road on the left shoulder. His car then hit an embankment and struck several small trees.

Mooneyhan was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The full report is still being processed.
