Chattanooga city courts will be closed for two weeks beginning Monday, June 8, due to a staff member on the city court clerk's staff testing positive for COVID-19, according to a news release from the city of Chattanooga on Saturday.

The employee tested positive on Thursday, June 4, and all clerk staff, city judges and their employees have been notified, tested and are quarantining themselves, officials state.

The courts will be closed until June 18. During that time, the facilities will be "thoroughly cleaned and sanitized" per Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, the release states.

Court cases will be rescheduled, and individuals are encouraged to call 311 for information about the rescheduled date and time for their cases. Anyone who may have attended court proceedings or visited the offices between May 27 and June 4 are advised to monitor themselves for symptoms. A list of free coronavirus testing opportunities is available at cha.city/covidtesting.

Just last week, the city announced its first case of a city employee testing positive for COVID-19. The individual was not a public official with a public-facing position.
