This week, convicted felons will have the opportunity to land a job or gain essential skills needed for the workforce at the New Life Job Fair.

Hosted by the American Job Center, the program will commence with a career prep day on March 5, followed by the job fair on March 6.

The career prep day will offer various assistant programs such as free haircuts and vouchers for clothing.

Attendance at the career prep day is required in order to participate in the job fair.

Chattanooga area men and women of all ages have participated in previous job fairs. Troy Rogers, Chattanooga's public safety coordinator, believes in the importance of having public resources available to those that are striving to move forward.

"We solve recidivism by economic mobility. Give a young man or woman enough money and they probably won't do anything criminal," said Rogers. "Resources, access and exposure are the new equalizers in occupational and vocational success."
