Baylor School eighth grader takes top prize at regional spelling bee

Baylor School eighth grader Alisha Chandra was the winner of the Chattanooga Times Free Press Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday afternoon. She claimed the title after seven rounds by spelling trigeminal correctly. About 60 students competed at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga for the chance to go to the National Spelling Bee in May in Washington, D.C.

The Top 5 finishers were:

- First place: Alisha Chandra of Baylor School

- Second place: Anniston Pierce of Saddle Ridge

- Third place: Lisa Lin of Signal Mountain Middle High School

- Fourth place: Chris Dowda of LaFayette Middle School

- Fifth place: Kaesear Cardenas of Orchard Knob Middle School
