A 10-year-old boy who was rescued from a burning East Brainerd home on Wednesday has died from his injuries, according to a release from the Chattanooga Fire Department.

"Our department wants his loved ones to know that they remain in our prayers during this difficult time, along with our firefighters who selflessly risked their lives to get to the child during the fire," the release states.

Crews had worked for hours to completely extinguish the fire, which caused a firefighter, the boy and his 19-year-old brother to be hospitalized.

The incident is currently under investigation.
