A man has been arrested on assault charges after an incident at the Hamilton County Courthouse on Monday, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.

Police say Donald Scott Trivett, 39, began creating a disturbance shortly after entering the courthouse around noon, and was told to leave the building by an HCSO court deputy and a Walden security officer. Trivett refused and assaulted both officers before taking the security officer's pistol from his holster, the release states.

A court bailiff helped take the pistol from Trivett and multiple HCSO deputies and Chattanooga police officers arrived to assist with the situation.

Trivett was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, carrying a weapon during a judicial proceeding, unlawful carrying of a weapon, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, according to the release.

The court deputy and security officer suffered minor injuries from the incident.
