Dalton Distillery, with the help of Whitfield County, Georgia, and the city of Dalton's parks and recreation departments, will be giving out free sanitizer on Wednesday.

The distillery that normally makes vodka, whiskey and moonshine has been busy since March taking large orders for sanitizer from banks, law enforcement agencies and other groups. The distillery has been both selling and donating sanitizer during the coronavirus outbreak.

Chuck Butler with Dalton Distillery said the simple task of handing out sanitizer has been overwhelming.

"It's got to a point where I'm having to pay people to hand out free goods," Butler said with a laugh.

The partnership with Whitfield County Parks and Recreation will make donations much more seamless. As the local government opened up, the partners were able to work out a weekly schedule where Dalton Distillery will start to hand out 100 gallons a week.

People will drive up and get a bottle filled while staying in their vehicle.

Butler estimated the distillery has donated more than 3,000 gallons since the pandemic started.

'We've been able to sell some, too, which has allowed us to keep donating it," he said.

Visitors are asked to bring a 16 oz. bottle to be filled. Sanitizer is limited to 16 oz. per person.

The Dalton Parks and Recreation Department will be handing out sanitizer starting at 9 a.m. at the John Davis Recreation Center.

The sanitizer will be given out until 5 p.m. or until the supply is gone.
