A former Hamilton County Sheriff's Office deputy is facing criminal charges stemming from two investigations involving allegations of misconduct, according to a HCSO news release.

Charles Jason Whitecotton, 40, who served as the school resource officer for Red Bank High School until his suspension in March due to the investigations, is accused of stealing from the HCSO by making false entries on his employee payroll time sheets between Dec. 4, 2019, and March 3, 2020, according to the indictment. He is being charged with theft of property over $1,000 and forgery.

Whitecotton turned himself into the Hamilton County Jail on Wednesday on outstanding arrest warrants.

An internal affairs investigation concluded on July 14 and a hearing was scheduled for Whitecotton, but he resigned on Oct. 1 before his hearing date.
