Authorities in Jackson County, Alabama, are investigating after infant remains were found in a home on Monday, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

On Oct. 4, deputies responded to a call near Woodville, Alabama, on a report of a birth taking place at a residence, with the newborn's body possibly discarded.

The deceased newborn was then located at the residence on Oct. 5, as a result of a search warrant, the release states. The age of the infant is not known, and the remains will be taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
