Chattanooga-based Blood Assurance announced Tuesday that it is in critical need of several blood types because of a trauma at a local hospital in its service area.

The area blood bank is down to four units of O-negative, 20 units of O-positive and 12 units of A-positive. There is also an urgent need for A-negative, B-positive and B-negative donors, according to a news release from the organization.

As an incentive, Blood Assurance is offering all O donors a $10 Amazon gift card beginning Wednesday, April 21, through Wednesday, April 28.

Centers in Chattanooga and Georgia will be open for blood donations until 8 p.m. starting Wednesday.

Blood Assurance and blood banks across the nation are seeing the lowest number of blood donors since the COVID-19 pandemic began over a year ago, according to the news release.
