A fire in a classroom at East Ridge High School caused heavy smoke to spread through the gymnasium Tuesday morning, according to a news release from East Ridge Fire Rescue.

Officials responded to the scene at 7:39 a.m. and extinguished the fire before removing the smoke from the building.

Two members of Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services were treated for smoke inhalation and released at the scene.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical short in an air conditioning unit, which sustained damage, the release states.
