The boyfriend of a man who was found dead on Hunt Avenue in 2019 has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, according to the Hamilton County District Attorney's Office.

Luke Jackson Jr., 44, entered the plea in Hamilton County Criminal Court on Thursday for the March 10, 2019, killing of Starlin Fike, the release states.

Jackson had called 911 that morning, saying that Fike was not responsive and that he had advanced Parkinson's Disease. When police arrived at the Brainerd area residence, they found 47-year-old Fike lying on his back in the living room area of the pool house behind the home. Fike was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner later determined that Fike had been strangled.

Jackson told police that Fike attacked him and that he restrained him in self-defense. Witnesses told police they saw the two men arguing earlier and investigators said signs of a disorder were visible where the murder took place, according to the release.

Jackson has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
