Suspect apprehended by Collegedale police after four-hour armed standoff

Collegedale Police responded to a call about an armed suspect barricaded in a home in the Loblolly neighborhood off of Tallant Road on Friday morning.

The call came around 3:19 a.m. from people who said the suspect was holding them at gunpoint in their home, according to a Collegedale Police Department news release. Officers arrived around four minutes later and were able to meet with one of the callers who escaped the gunman, the release stated. Once the victim was secured, Special Operations and Response Team members were called to the scene.

"I am extremely proud of the professionalism and restraint shown by our officers as they responded to a difficult situation," Chief Jack Sapp said in the news release. "Our officers and the individual in custody are uninjured and safe. You couldn't ask for a better outcome."

The suspect - who was intoxicated and repeatedly threatened self-harm or harm of the police during the four-hour standoff - surrendered around 7:20 a.m. and was taken into custody by Collegedale police.

No further details on the suspect were released by the department, which cited the person's mental health status.
