Motorcyclist, cyclist killed in Chattanooga in separate Christmas Eve crashes

A cyclist and a motorcyclist were struck and killed in two separate crashes Christmas Eve in Chattanooga.

Around 12:34 a.m. Friday, police responded to a crash on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 near Exit 181 and Old Ringgold Road, according to a police department news release. A 57-year-old man had been struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the roadway on his bicycle, according to police.

The cyclist was in the second lane of travel and a vehicle traveling in the same lane struck the cyclist. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene, police said. The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later that day, around 6:03 p.m., police responded to a crash near the 3700 block of Cummings Highway. According to a news release, a Nissan traveling west on Cummings Highway in the center turn lane turned in front of a 30-year-old man driving a Ducati motorcycle traveling east on Cummings Highway. The motorcycle struck the Nissan.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
