Suspect charged in Wednesday homicide on 6th Avenue

Chattanooga police have arrested a suspect in connection to the death of a 56-year-old man who was shot Wednesday morning, according to a news release.

Just before 6 a.m., police responded to a report of a person shot in the 3600 block of 6th Ave. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds who was later pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel, the release states.

Investigators identified 35-year-old Gary Skiles Jr. as the suspect involved, who was later detained by several area police units. Police have not identified the victim.

Skiles is currently in custody and charged with aggravated assault and criminal homicide, according to police.
