A Hamilton County Sheriff's Office court officer is facing charges after being involved in a shooting Saturday afternoon, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Lauren McMillion, 29, has been charged with aggravated assault and kidnapping after Chattanooga police responded to a call of a person shot near the 1900 block of Chestnut Street.

When officers arrived at the location, they found McMillion with a gunshot wound inside of the residence and a man, who police did not identify, outside of the residence. It was determined through investigation that McMillion accused the man of theft, and she, along with 44-year-old Stanley Asegbola, physically assaulted the man while both brandishing weapons, according to police.

It was also determined that "the female upholstered her loaded firearm and had it in her hand when the man who stated he was in fear for his life disarmed then shot her with the weapon," a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department reads. The man who fired the weapon is not charged in this incident, police said.

McMillion was taken to a local hospital for treatment and remains in stable condition, authorities said. Asegbola also faces aggravated assault and kidnapping charges stemming from the incident and is being held at the Silverdale Detention Center, the release states.

McMillion has been placed on administrative leave as per Hamilton County Sheriff's Office policy pending the conclusion of both a sheriff's office internal investigation and a criminal investigation by the Chattanooga Police Department.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 423-698-2525 or submit a tip through the Chattanooga Police Department's mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
