A suspect in connection to a June killing on Dodson Avenue was arrested Wednesday in Leon County, Florida, according to a Chattanooga Police Department news release.

Paul Hayden, 52, was located and arrested with the combined effort of the Chattanooga Police Department Fugitive Unit and the United States Marshals Service, the release states.

Hayden is being charged with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm. He will be extradited to Hamilton County at a later date, police said.

Wednesday's arrest was the result of a search that began June 29, the day 54-year-old Maurice Wallace was shot and killed in a parking lot on the 800 block of Dodson Avenue. Police arrived at the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m. to find Wallace suffering from a gunshot, and he was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injury, according to investigators.

The investigation is ongoing. Chattanooga police ask anyone who has information about the incident to call the homicide tip line at 423-643-5100 or submit a tip through the department's mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
