73-year-old dies after being struck by vehicle on I-24 in Chattanooga

A 73-year-old man has died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 24, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on July 22, and it was determined through investigation that the victim, not yet identified by police, stopped his vehicle on the shoulder of I-24 near the interchange with U.S. Highway 27. He was attempting to cross the interstate to reach a disabled vehicle when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle, a news release stated.

Emergency services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information about the incident to call 423-698-2525 or submit a tip through the CPD mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
