The Ringgold City Council has named Mark Vaughn its new city manager. The council's five members unanimously agreed during their meeting on Monday evening that Vaughn was the right choice for the job.

"I don't think there was a bad candidate in the bunch, but your love of the city really stood out in your interview," Mayor Nick Millwood told Vaughn. "It's not just what you say about the city, but about what you do and have done here."

Vaughn has been serving as interim city manager since mid-May, when then-city manager Dan Wright left to become county manager for Catoosa. Wright's transition to county manager followed the unexpected resignation of Alicia Vaughn in April. She had served in that position since September 2018 before her departure.

As city manager, Mark Vaughn will oversee day-to-day operations in Ringgold.

His prior experience includes service as director of the city's collection system department beginning in October 2013, a six-year stint as that department's assistant superintendent and six years of employment as a water treatment plant operator beginning in May 2000.

Vaughn holds a bachelor of science degree in business administration and organizational management and has more than 21 years of experience working in government.

The finalists for the city manager position included Vaughn; Roger Kane Jr., who owns an insurance company in Knoxville; and Garrett Teems, a marketing sales support coordinator with Avenger Logistics in Chattanooga.

"We were lucky enough to have great candidates all around," Millwood said Thursday. "I am confident he will serve the city well."
