Man charged with criminal homicide after shooting on Peeples Street

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting that left one person dead Monday morning on Peeples Street, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Derrick Harvey, 26, has been charged with criminal homicide and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after police found 51-year-old Tracy Freeman dead from a gunshot wound.

The incident happened shortly after 7 a.m., and investigators said Freeman may have been in a verbal altercation with another person before the shooting.

Harvey was taken into custody on June 8 and he is being held at the Silverdale Detention Center, the release states.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is advised to call 423-643-5100 or submit a tip through the police department's mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
