Two people died in a morning house fire in Walker County on Monday, according to a news release.

Walker County Fire Rescue is investigating the cause of the blaze after responding to the fire in the 400 block of Bicentennial Trail in Rock Springs at 9:44 a.m. When first responders arrived, heavy smoke and fire were observed pouring from the house.

Officials would later locate two victims inside.

The county is calling in the Georgia State Fire Marshal's office to help investigate the origin of the fire.

"As soon as the fire crews finish inside, we'll be able to get inside and look and try to make a determination of the origin and cause," said Scott Forrest, Walker County Fire Marshal, in the release. "Basically, depending on how intricate that investigation gets will depend on the outcome and how long before we can make a determination."

Officials did note that fire alarms were present in the home.

The release also states that as Walker County, Catoosa County and Walker State Prison crews worked on this fire, they were notified of another ongoing fire in the county, right outside of Rossville.
