A man died after a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.
Officers responded to the 4800 block of Brainerd Road around 8:43 p.m. and determined that a GMC Safari had been traveling east when it struck a wooden utility pole with a red flag marker attached to the end that was being transported in a Freightliner 1FV making a right turn into a parking lot. The pole broke and remained lodged in the Safari's windshield, and the Safari veered across lanes and hit a Nissan Armada that was stopped on Moore Road at the intersection of Brainerd Road.
The 56-year-old driver of the Safari was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported, the release states.
An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call 423-698-2525 or submit a tip via the CPD Mobile App. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
