Dalton police: Woman shot in face; man in custody

Dalton, Georgia, police are investigating an early Tuesday morning incident that left one woman with a gunshot wound to her face, according to a news release.

Dalton police officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 200 block of Park Canyon Drive just before 3 a.m. after a report of a shooting. At the scene, officers found 23-year-old Darby Amos suffering from gunshot wounds to her hand and jaw, according to authorities. Investigators at the scene also located and arrested a suspect, 22-year-old Matthew Holcomb.

Two young children were "located safe and uninjured inside the apartment and were turned over to family members," the release states.

Emergency services transported Amos to a hospital in the Chattanooga area to be treated for her injuries.

Holcomb has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and cruelty to children in the third degree.

The investigation is ongoing.
