Chattanooga City Judge Sherry Paty last week received the Municipal Judge of the Year award from the Tennessee Municipal Judges Conference.

During her time as state president of the conference, Paty was instrumental in implementing a first-of-its-kind training with the National Judicial College implemented in Tennesee, the conference said, and her efforts led to an increase in participation from a few judges a year to an estimated 200 judges per year.

The municipal judge award is presented each year to a judge for service to the conference and Tennesee judiciary during their time on the bench.

"It was an honor to receive," said Paty, who was selected from the estimated 250 judges in the state.

Created in 2015, the Sharon G. Lee Award of Excellence is given during the annual Tennesee Municipal Judges Conference. The award is named after Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon G. Lee.

Lee typically attends the conference, held this year at the Cool Springs Embassy Suites Hotel in Franklin. This year she sent a video message presenting the award to Paty.

Paty is seeking re-election next year.
