A contract worker died at the Watts Bar Nuclear Power Plant near Spring City on Thursday.

Tennessee Valley Authority spokesperson Jim Hopson said the contractor was found unconscious at the plant early Thursday morning "and, despite the immediate medical attention provided by onsite and offsite personnel, the individual could not be revived."

Hopson said the fatality does not appear to be work-related, but he said an investigation is underway "to develop a comprehensive understanding of all of the facts.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual's family and the entire Watts Bar team," he said.
