Soddy Elementary School is closed Friday due to a water main break that left the school without access to water, Hamilton County Schools announced on social media early Friday morning.

"HCS values the health and well-being of our students and staff. Soddy Elementary will be closed today due to water main break and no access to water. We received confirmation from the water company just before 6 a.m. and apologize for the inconvenience," the message said.

District spokesperson Janelle Drake told the Times Free Press in an email that Soddy Elementary parents were notified about the break shortly after the district received confirmation of it.

The school will use a stockpile day for Friday, she said. No instruction takes place on stockpile days, also known as snow days or inclement weather days.
