A student at East Ridge High School was arrested Monday afternoon after a school resource officer discovered a loaded handgun in the student's possession, according to a Hamilton County Sheriff's Office news release.

The officer assigned to East Ridge High School was contacted by the Hamilton County Juvenile Court about 2 p.m. regarding a student wanted for a probation violation and unruly conduct.

The officer located the student and a loaded Glock handgun was found in the student's pants, officials said.

The student was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and contraband in a penal institution, as well as the earlier issues from juvenile court.
