The three candidates vying to be the Republican nominee for Hamilton County mayor will meet Monday in a debate hosted by the Chattanooga Times Free Press and Local 3 News.

The debate among Matt Hullander of Chattanooga, Sabrena Smedley of Ooltewah and Weston Wamp of Chattanooga will be from 5-6 p.m. and will be livestreamed at timesfreepress.com. It also will be broadcast live on Local 3 News and livestreamed at local3news.com.

The debate will be moderated by Dave Flessner of the Times Free Press and David Carroll of Local 3 News. It will not include Democrat Matt Adams because he has no opposition in the May 3 primary.

Early voting for the county primary elections begins Wednesday and ends April 28. The primary election is May 3.

On Thursday, Smedley and Wamp will participate in a Republican primary forum airing at 8 p.m. on WTCI-PBS and WUTC 88.1. All candidates who qualified to be on the Republican primary ballot were invited to participate. Hullander declined.

The event's partnering organizations include the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, Chattanooga 2.0, the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, United Way of Greater Chattanooga and Venture Forward.

The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat Adams and two independent candidates, Richard D. Ford and David Tulis, in the general election on Aug. 4.

On Monday night, the candidates will answer a list of questions compiled by Times Free Press readers and Local 3 News viewers, as well some submitted by Hamilton County residents.
