A former teacher accused of molesting a child has been re-arrested and is being held without bond after two additional abuse charges were filed against her in Catoosa County.

Deborah Cooper McCarty, 61, is being held in a Catoosa County jail after being denied bail, according to county records.

McCarty is facing charges of aggravated child molestation, child molestation, fondling, enticing a child for indecent purposes, obscene phone contact with a child and sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority, according to her arrest report.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place at her home, and the alleged victim is a 12-year-old minor, the report further stated.

She was first arrested Jan. 4, charged with four child abuse charges, according to county records. At that time, she was released on $20,000 bond, according to local media reports.

Arrest records also said the alleged incident occurred from Nov. 21-Nov. 29. The incident was reported to police Dec. 20.

CEO of Chattanooga Charter Schools of Excellence Marcia Griffin said McCarty was a teacher at the middle school beginning Aug. 20. On Dec. 2, McCarty was fired, Griffin said.

When asked if McCarty was fired because of actions related to the charges, Griffin said she couldn't comment on an ongoing investigation.

"We have been actively cooperating with law enforcement from day one and will continue to do so," Griffin said. "We really focus on [the] safety and well-being of our school community. We always have and always will."

McCarty was arrested on the two additional charges on Thursday after more evidence was obtained in the case, according to the arrest record.
