A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting on Milne Street that left one person dead Sunday, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Shannon Kelsey, 30, has been charged with criminal homicide, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon during the commission of a felony and felony reckless endangerment after police found 33-year-old Walter Williams suffering from gunshot injuries in the 2300 block of Milne Street.

The incident happened shortly after 1 a.m., and it was determined through investigation that Kelsey and Williams had been involved in an altercation when Kelsey "produced a firearm and fired at the victim," the release stated.

Emergency services transported Williams to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Kelsey is being held at the Silverdale Detention Center.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is advised to call 423-643-5100 or submit a tip through the police department's mobile app. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
